PE & Sports Pupil Premium Impact Statement

All pupils leaving primary school will be physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

Objective

To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools.

Indicators of such improvement to include
  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity — kick-starting healthy, active lifestyles
  • The profile of PE and sport is being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport
  • A broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils
  • An increased participation in competitive sport.
Rationale
  • It is of great importance with great passion that participation in a wider range of physical activities enables children to develop their health and well-being. This leads us to identify and uphold our vision for children at Forest Academy.
Aims
  • Give all children opportunities to participate in two hours of PE each week
  • Delivering and experiencing a wide range of physical activities, which includes, gymnastics, dance, swimming, outdoor and adventurous games, striking and fielding games, invasion games, net and wall games and athletics.
  • Developing and continuing with ’health and fitness’ through promoting being active and eating healthily as well as carrying out fitness test to measure children’s fitness levels.
  • Developing children’s own physical development.
  • Identifying children who show talent or are ’gifted and talented’.
  • Opportunities for children to develop confidence, self-esteem and team work skills.
  • Giving children opportunities to participate in a range of sports and activities which they would not otherwise have access to.
  • For children to enjoy taking part in a variety of sporting activities, including traditional and non-traditional events, e.g. football, cricket, hockey and dance

Pupils take part in two hours of PE each week and this includes a range of multi-skill games. One hour of PE is delivered by a PE specialist. For children to develop skills and attitudes which are transferable and can be drawn upon in their future life and current school work.

A sense of personal challenge To make links with other areas of the curriculume.g. maths, IT, literacy, science, PSHCE
Determination To celebrate success at whatever level the children are participating
Perseverance To be inclusive so that all children have access to fun sporting activities which are appropriate for their needs
Co-operation and collaboration To identify children with sporting talents and potential and make link with other agencies and clubs to aid with their future development
Fair play Tolerance
Respect for self and others Valuing every contribution; learning to win AND lose

Pupil Sport Premium funding has been used to support and develop a range of skills for staff and pupils and to an active and healthy lifestyle. The approach we have taken at Forest Academy is based on the desire to ensure all children benefit from the funding regardless of their sporting ability and that the most able children are given the opportunity to participate in high level competitions.

The school employs a sports specialist company to cover our PE Provision who on a weekly basis delivers CPD for areas identified for specific training needs within the school. All teaching staff will receive training at some point throughout the year. We also invest the funds into training staff for the lunchtime organisers to introduce playground games. The school has also been able to increase competitive opportunities through payment of competition fees, travel to competitions and employs coaching staff to provide additional weekly after school sport through the ’Active Schools’ scheme.

We work towards developing healthy lifestyles through our Health Awareness Week, which is a week dedicated to healthy living. This week offers a range of activities throughout the school and helps to create links with local sports clubs and gives us the opportunity to bring in PE specialists to enrich our curriculum. Parents are kept updated on progress in PE and sport throughout the year via newsletters and the school website. We have also opted for sports mentoring to encourage leadership, teamwork and gain further skills in our school to engage and learn to be role models. The Pupil Sport Premium funding has enabled the school to build on the quality of PE and sports provision throughout the school. The impact on skill development is already evident in PE assessments, also in the enthusiasm and high participation in lunchtime activities.

You can view in the attachments below how our Sports Premium grant was spent in the year 2022-23 and the impact it had.

We look forward to another incredible year of PE and Sport, our priorities for 2023 - 2024 include:
  • To ensure that all children are receiving high quality opportunities to participate and develop their skills in a range of sports and games, through funded PE sessions.
  • To continue to develop our lunchtime and after school club provision, as well as providing opportunities to improve physical health and wellbeing.
  • To partake in a greater number of sporting opportunities and competitions.
